A man with a 14.5-inch hairy tail growing from his back has been hailed as a god by villagers in India. 35-year-old Chandre Oraon, was born with a patch of hair on his lower back that he has refused to have cut, leading to locals believing that he is an incarnation of Hindu monkey deity Hanuman.

Hanuman

The patch of hair and subsequent tail are thought to be the result of a birth defect. Experts believe the tail is a form of spinal bifida where the spinal column fails to fully close. Left untreated, growths, such as hair, can occur on the lower back.

Chandre Oraon

Mr. Oraon works as a tea picker, so the fact that he climbs tea trees all day only adds to his monkey God mystique. He hopes to eventually build a temple so that he can offer mass blessings to his growing group of followers.
